We’ve been on the wait list for one month! The current wait time for a referral is 3-5 months so this means hopefully we only have 2-4 more months to wait until we finally see pictures of our peanut!

What better way to celebrate reaching the first month of waiting than with some new books for the baby’s library:

In other adoption news, we completed two hours of Hague training last night which gives us 3 hours down, 7 to go. Due to new federal regulations, all parents adopting internationally are required to complete 10 hours of training. Prior to our adoption we must complete two hours in each of the following categories:

Attachment and Bonding

Facilitating Behavior Change (done!)

Grief and Loss

Institutionalized Child

Country-specific course (1 hour done, 1 hour remaining)

The courses are delivered online via video download. At the end of each course we have to take a “quiz.” The quiz questions generally go like this: Was the presenter wearing a traditional Ethiopian costume? Was Dr. So-and-So the only presenter? (I hate to admit it but I do occasionally give this type of quiz to my students; the sole purpose of them obviously being to determine who did the reading without a lot of effort on my part to grade the papers). It probably won’t be surprising to most of you that we would prefer reading books about these topics as opposed to watching these presentations. If we’d actually been in the class last night, I suspect Chris would have been asked to leave. And I would have been right behind him.

Hi there! I just discovered your blog through Grace’s Gladney list and I love it! I haven’t read all of the posts yet but I loved the one about the “What to expect when you’re expecting” book…that’s crazy that those words are actually in there. And I love the “Skin you’re in” book too, it looks so cute. I’m going to pick it up. We’re waiting like you, 3 months today. Happy to find you!

Hey! I caught up on your blog. If you don’t count the 3 hour distance- we are practically neighbors! We have a stack of adoption and transracial parenting books that we read if you want to borrow any of them. We did the same Gladney training that you did as well. Jody would have gotten the boot as well! I am totally going to copy your stroller purchase. LOVE IT. Maybe next trip to Indy we could go shopping? So happy to “meet” you!
