The Many Faces of Dagim

August 14, 2008 · 16 Comments

This boy cracks me up. Tonight, as I was rocking him to sleep, or trying to, I couldn’t even look at him because he was making me laugh. He was almost asleep, his eyelids heavy, his bottle not even finished, and then I guess he decided that he didn’t want to go to sleep. He started babbling and moving his hands around in the air (this kid gesticulates like I’ve never seen), humming this little sing-song that he has, touching my nose and laughing. I had to close my eyes while singing to him because every time I laughed at him, he got more and more animated. Today was our first full day at home as a family. It was a great day. I can’t believe how much he’s changed since the day we got him, eleven days ago. That first day, he was so quiet and shy. Now he runs around, gets into everything, babbles, laughs, plays, cries. I can’t wait to see what he’ll do next.

Shasta, you are bringing tears to my eyes… partially because I am so happy for you and so honored to be able to witness a small part of this part of your journey (the bud to bloom part, as I think of it…) but also because I can’t imagine what it will be like to see this bud to bloom stage with Anna.

Your love for Dagim makes me ache even more for Anna.

I’m glad you made it home safely. He’s a funny character. My favorite is his hand to the ear listening for what’s going on around him. Can’t wait to read more about your trip.

Congratulations to all. How wonderful that you have each other. Chris, I know Dag will enjoy your building skills when it comes to building forts out of couch cushions. Tim hasn’t forgotten all of your creative “child sitting” skills. Next trip to Columbus stop by Woodland Parkway and visit all of us. Herschel and Sally

Shasta, I’m so happy for you and Chris! He is a beautiful boy. When you mentioned “animated” that reminded me of Ethan when he was little. Even my dad said Ethan looked like a “cartoon character.” I still have that framed picture you took of him inside the brown paper bag :) , do you remember that?
No doubt you will be a great mom. I know what it feels like when the love for your child is unexplainable…. enjoy those feelings and treasure them. Thanks for updating your site.
